The National Post is reporting that a study done by the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada found that pregnancy rates for females aged 15-19 plummeted to 27.9 per 1,000 in 2006 from 44.2 in 1996.

Other countries each saw smaller declines or even increases.

In the United States rate dropped 25% to 61.2 pregnancies per 1,000, that for England/Wales dropped by less than 5% to 60.3 yet the Swedish rate increased 19% to 31.4. Those countries were chosen because their pregnancy statistics could be easily compared, with a breakdown between live births and abortions, said the study in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality.

The rate of abortions and births in Canada remained about equal throughout the 10 years, while the percentage of births in the United States rose to almost 68% of pregnancies. On the other hand, the rate of abortions increased in both Britain and Sweden.
